Martin Mathieu obtained his doctorate and Privatdozent from the
University of Tübingen in Germany. He lectured and did research in many
universities in Europe and North America, including at Trinty College Dublin
and Maynooth University, before taking up his present position in Queen’s
University Belfast. His research area is that part of pure Mathematics called
functional analysis, and he is a world authority on the theory of local
multiplier algebras.
