Jay Winter teaches history at Yale University. He is the author of Sites of Memory, Sites of Mourning: The Great War in European Cultural History (Cambridge University Press, 1995); Remembering War (Yale University Press, 2006) and Dreams of Peace and Freedom (Yale University Press, 2006). His biography René Cassin et les droits de l'homme, co-authored with Antoine Prost, was published by Fayard in February 2011, and will appear in English in 2012. He is editor-in-chief of the three-volume Cambridge History of the First World War, to be published in 2014.
